History

For over 30 years, Radyr Musical Society, formerly Radyr Parish Music Group, has been staging musicals, operettas, and concerts.

We believe in doing our best to put on a good show for the audience, while having fun along the way, and getting the local community involved.

We are as much a community of friends as of musicians, and manage to combine our work around performances with a regular round of social events.

We put on a musical production in February each year, and a Cabaret evening in early summer. We also have a number of social events for members throughout the year.

Whether you fancy yourself in a lead role, just want to enjoy singing as part of a chorus, help out backstage or lend a hand with the essential business and administration side of performing, we'll give you a warm welcome into our group.

The society began life as Radyr Parish Music Group 'RPMG' in 1985 when families within Christ Church, Radyr became involved in a musical presentation that proved to add a new dimension to the life and outreach of the Church. Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was an outstanding success.

Other productions followed, and soon became an established feature of the Radyr and Morganstown calendar. The idea of locals performing for their own and their community’s enjoyment quickly spread RPMG’s reach beyond the immediate community of Christ Church and, as the scale of effort and participation increased, the performance venue shifted from the church to the Drama Studio in Radyr Comprehensive School. Since 2008 our shows have been staged at the Bishop of Llandaff School. In 2018 we changed our name to Radyr Musical Society, to better reflect what we do.

Our President is Christine Davies. Christine was a founder member of the group who for many years was its musical director.
